A breast health week was held at the Megah Medical Specialists Group Sdn Bhd premises in the first week of July. Dr Evelyn Ho conducted self breast examination workshops for small groups, not exceeding 10 in number from 1.30pm to 2.30pm daily from Monday to Friday.  The response was good and there were 2 male participants in the workshops. A total of 47 benefitted from these detail SBE workshops, complete with Teaching Breast Models and practical demonstrations.

On Saturday (6 July), the breast health week culminated with a Breast Health and Breast Care Talk by Dr Lee Hock Bee, a consultant surgeon in the afternoon.

The Breast Cancer Welfare Association was invited to “set up” a booth at the reception foyer for increasing awareness and teaching of self-breast examination as well as to raise awareness of the presence of a breast cancer support group. The President, Dorothy Teoh and 2 other volunteers, Lynn Leong and Linda Lim were personally giving advice to the public and patients who stopped by at their counter. They brought teaching breast models to help provide the visual and tactile aids for learning self breast examination.

Ms Jenny Lim of Medisia Sdn Bhd, was also on hand to lend her support to increasing the awareness of special bras and breast prostheses for those who have had a segment of their breast or their whole breast removed by surgery. This is important general knowledge to have. In Malaysia, many are unaware that they do not need to go around with a bare half of the chest or resort to stuffing hankies in the “empty” side of their bra. Such aids to improving the female breast form after major surgery on the breast is a boost to self esteem and helps the patient recover faster and better from the trauma of surgery for breast cancer.

For one whole month, exhibits and posters on breast health, breast care and related issues were placed on Notice Boards in the centre.
