The Radiology Malaysia Online Quiz was organised to
reward our regular surfers and to attract a wider
readership to its proactive messages on breast health
and wealth of information on matters related to
Radiology, Clinical Oncology and related topics which
have been primarily tailored to serve the Malaysian
public. The Creative Design Contest and Drama & Poetry
Challenge were also organised in collaboration with
Dasein Academy of Art and HELP University College
respectively. The aim was to develop an avenue for the
youth to become more aware of breast cancer and early
detection.
25 November 2004 marked the culmination of the breast
cancer awareness programmes of the College of Radiology
(CoR) for the year 2004 and reports were presented by Dr
Evelyn Ho on both the progress of the official website
of the CoR as well as the 2004 programmes and
specifically the
2004
mammogram programme.
Assoc Prof Dr Basri JJ
Abdullah, President of the College of Radiology gave a
very short but succinct
speech relevant to the day’s events.
Guest of Honour was Ms
Ranjit Kaur, President of Reach to Recovery
International, a breast cancer support network. Ranjit
had just arrived from Dublin and she has just been
conferred by the International Union Against Cancer –
the Volunteer of the Year 2004 Award!
The feedback received from the quiz participants show
that Radiology Malaysia is on the right track. However,
much more needs to be done. Many still feel there is
inadequate publicity on the availability of such an
informative website tailored for Malaysians. The
challenge also lies in raising funds to enable events
that publicise the website. Prizes for 2004 were
sponsored by Meditel, Fuji Photo Film, Teh Siew Lin,
Loong Mei Yin and TQM Management. The prize presentation
event and advertisements for the Online Quiz was
sponsored by Meditel.

Tawfiq Effendy bin Mohd Shalleh from Johor Bahru won the
second Grand Prize Package of a Samsung Avant-garde 710V
17” LCD Monitor, a 2D/1N stay at Pangkor Island Beach
Resort and a copy of the book Enhancing Self-Esteem.
Tawfiq nearly did not enter the contest because he felt
that as a man, breast cancer did not concern him. On the
closing date, Tawfiq decided to give the quiz a go and
was pleasantly surprised as he found navigating the
website for information easy and comfortable, even on a
dreaded subject such as breast cancer. He has since
changed his view of breast cancer being only a woman’s
problem. He states, “A married couple should realise
that the burden of facing breast cancer does not lie
only with the woman. Man has to play their role in
giving support.” Winning in the online contest proved a
true learning process for Tawfiq. Radiology Malaysia
congratulates Tawfiq Effendy for having had such an
enriching experience surfing

Mdm Chaan Nyok Moy came
with her family from Johor to attend the Prize
Presentation. She won the 3rd Grand Prize of
a Samsung SyncMaster 510N 15” LCD monitor, a 2D/1N
Pangkor Island Beach Resort and a copy of Enhancing Self
Esteem. Mdm Chaan has this to say: “The Radiology
Malaysia Breast Health website is full of updated info.
To reach out more to the public I suggest publishing
advertisements through billboard, poster, or flyers with
smart slogan or tagline.”
The other winners were Tan
Mei Yen (Malacca), Low Chew Houng (Kuala Lumpur), Lai
Shwu Ching (Selangor), Chan Pui Ding (Kuala Lumpur) and
Chong Lee Onn (Kuala Lumpur).

Mr Low Chew
Houng found the online quiz advertisement in the
newspaper. He was just trying his luck and says, “I'm
very happy to be selected as one of the winners as this
is the first time I won a contest which required a
slogan.” His suggestion for Radiology Malaysia is to
allow registration for email newsletters on health tips
or related content.
Lai Shwu Ching relates her
experience of surfing Radiology Malaysia. “The website
is a wealth of information. I have learned a lot on
breast cancer, radiology and the activities that were
held in Malaysia. It's a great feeling to win something
and at the same time being much wiser about cancer.”
Her wish list for Radiology Malaysia includes: Cover
more on other cancers like pelvic cancer, leukaemia;
Prevention of cancer or related diseases; Proactive in
informing the public of the dangers of certain products
and Proactive in informing the public of advertisements
with false or unsubstantiated claims about health foods
or supplements.
Chan Pui Ding was also
excited at being one of the winners of the Quiz. She
says, “I wish Radiology Malaysia will be able to reach
out to more people on the importance of routine breast
examination and work towards improving the screening
programme for breast cancer in Malaysia.”
It was not just Online
Quiz Prizes that were given away at the College of
Radiology’s Prize Presentation Day. The winners for the
inaugural Drama & Poetry Challenge co-organised with
HELP University College and the 2nd Creative Design
Contest co-organised with Dasein Academy of Art also
received their prizes on the same day, 25 November 2004.
