Congratulations to the University of Malaya Medical Centre
Continuing Biomedical Imaging Education (CBIE) for the very timely
conference on “Digital Image Management in a Globalised Economy”.
With radiology going digital, moving towards an integrated
healthcare enterprise has or will become a necessity. Issues,
success stories, experience gained, budgeting, connectivity,
standards were presented in this 2 day event.
Both local and foreign speakers formed the faculty. The faculty was
made up of doctors from various disciplines in medicine, technical
experts in the healthcare business dealing with networking, storage,
workstations, display panels and solutions such as Picture Archiving
and Communication System and application engineers. It was a show of
partnership between image management providers and users, including
administrators.
Speakers included Prof Dr Ng Kwang-Hoong, Prof Dr Basri JJ Abdullah,
Dr Katherine Meg Richman, Mr Erik Verschueren, Dr Lawrence Sim, Dr
Evelyn Ho, Prof Dato Dr Jai Mohan, Dr Winston Lim Eng Hoe, Mr
Christopher Tan, Mr Richard Wern, Mr Foo Sek Guan, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr
Abu Bakar Suleiman, Ms Maria Sidi, Mr Ian Loh, Prof Dr David
Stringer, Ms Reid Losee, Mr Martin Lindemann, Assoc Prof Dr Yang
Faridah and Mr Steven Muller. Dr Nat Lenzo was one of the
panelists for the Forum on Digital Image Management in a Globalised
Economy – Is It in the Patient’s Interest?
From the feedback received, the participants were pleasantly
surprised at the interesting, varied and useful content of the
conference. It was particularly useful for those administrators and
managers of centres contemplating a solution for digital imaging
that would integrate with other aspects of a hospital information
system and/or radiology information system.
A gala dinner was the social highlight of the conference.
A trade exhibition was made up of the main sponsor, Agfa ASEAN and
other co-sponsors, Cisco, Planar, Dell, EMC2 and Intel. Participants
at the conference were able to test out flat panel monitors, Dell
solutions as well as talk to the experts in storage and networking.
The co-organisers of the event were the Biomedical Imaging and
Intervention Journal (BIIJ), University of Malaya Research Imaging
Centre (UMRIC) and College of Radiology, Academy of Medicine of
Malaysia.
