30th Annual General and Scientific
Meeting of the College of Radiology Honours Tan Sri Datuk Augustine Ong

The 30th College of Radiology’s Annual General and Scientific
Meeting was special this year. Tan Sri Datuk Augustine Ong Soon Hock,
PhD delivered the Inaugural biij (Biomedical Imaging & Intervention
Journal) Lecture and the keynote address was delivered by Prof Dr Victor
Lim, Dean of International Medical University and Deputy Master of the
Academy of Medicine, the umbrella body of the College of Radiology.
Officiating at the opening ceremony was Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Dr.
Noorimi bt Hj Morad, Deputy Director of Health (Medical Division).

East Coast Surgical Symposium 1: Challenges in
Management of Breast Cancer: A Clinician’s Dilemma, Kuantan

The 1st East Coast Surgical Symposium (ECSS) centred on
Breast Cancer was held in the Auditorium of the Kuliyyah of Medicine,
Indera Makhota Campus, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM)
in Kuantan, Pahang. The event was jointly organised by the Departments
of Surgery of IIUM and Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan together with the
IIUM Breast Centre.

Mammography Workshop, Selangor

A workshop on mammography attracted overwhelming response with more than
160 participants, of which a third were radiographers involved in the
provision of mammography service. Participants came from all over
Malaysia, including Sarawak.

Palliative Care Symposium: Clinical Decision
Making and Ethics in Advanced Cancer, Kuala Lumpur

Hospis Malaysia and University Malaya Medical Centre co-organised a
palliative care symposium focussed on clinical decision making and
ethics in advanced cancer. Technology has prolonged life and postponed
death. This translates to greater healthcare costs and an increasing
“burden” on already scarce resources. It also meant that end of life
care and support needed to come to the forefront.

“Brain and Brawn” MRI Workshop, Petaling Jaya, Selangor

The College of Radiology organised a workshop on Magnetic Resonance
Imaging on Sunday, 18 March 2007 at the Petaling Jaya Hilton Hotel. It
was very well attended with 147 participants. This workshop was preceded
the day before by a Siemens users’ forum. The workshop was made possible
by Siemens Medical.

Radiologists Inducted at the Opening Ceremony of the 40th
Malaysia-Singapore Congress of Medicine & National Specialists Register
Launched

The Opening Ceremony of the 40th Malaysia-Singapore Congress
of Medicine held in the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre was graced by
the Royal Patron of the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia, DYMM Seri
Paduka Sultan Perak Darul Ridzuan, His Royal Highness Sultan Azlan Shah.
YB Dato’ Dr Chua Soi Lek was also on hand to launch the National
Specialists Register.

Asian Rheumatology “Facing the Challenges”, Kuala Lumpur

Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR) Congress
was held in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 1 to 5 August 2006.
The Malaysian Society of Rheumatology was host for the conference under

International PET CT Workshop and Conference

Changes in technological advancement have greatly influenced the
rapidly developing medical services, including Nuclear Medicine
service. In view of the obvious shortage of expertise in the field of
Positron Emission Tomography Computed Tomography, or better known as

Angiography and New Sequences in MR Imaging.

Competitive World, Kuala Lumpur
