The Singapore Radiological Society and College of Radiologists, Singapore held their 21st Scientific Meeting at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore. The theme of the meeting was “Breast and Thoracic Imaging: Where do we go from here?”. This meeting was well attended with an invited faculty of local and international speakers. The meeting was preceded by a pre-congress workshop on Diagnostic Radiology Residency: Train the Trainers Workshop as well as breast and thoracic categorical sessions.
The foreign speakers hailed from United States of America, Canada, Netherlands, Australia, Indonesia and Malaysia. The local faculty included clinicians to emphasise the multidisciplinary aspect of management. Specialty tracks for radiographers and radiation therapists, nurses and radiation oncologists were also organised.
Professor Dr Shih-Chang Wang delivered the FY Khoo Lecture. His lecture entitled ‘Why Radiology Needs Philosophy” was intriguing with analogies made between philosophy and the practice of radiology. Professor Wang had previously worked in Singapore at the National University Hospital for 11 years before assuming the position of Parker Hughes Professor of Diagnostic Radiology, Sydney University in Australia. He is both an academic and clinical radiologist, with a wide range of research, educational and clinical interests.
There were many paper submissions, with oral as well as e-poster presentations. A social dinner was organised on 11th Feb. During the social dinner in Mandarin Oriental, a forum on “The Controversies of Mammographic Screening” was held. The dinner ended with the presentation of prizes to winners of the oral and e-poster presentations.
Congratulations to Drs Richard Yeo and Gervais Wansaicheong and their organising committee on a successful meeting.
