From the President's Desk - 2015

1 March 2015

Time really flies!

We are now in 2015 where excitement continues. CoR has arranged a series of activities that is sure to fulfill everyone’s need.

We are starting the year a bit later than usual with the 9th Congress of the Asian Society of Cardiovascular Imaging ASCI 2015 from 11 - 13 June 2015. This event is held in collaboration with National Heart Foundation. The theme is ‘Cardiac Harmony Through Imaging’. The venue shall be Le Meridien Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The organising committee from CoR is led by Cardiac SIG chairperson Dr Yusri Mohammed.

The following month from 31 July - 2 August 2015, we will have the 13th Asian Breast Diseases Association (ABDA) Teaching Course. The event will be held at Sunway Putra Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This event is organised by the Breast SIG under the leadership of Dato Dr Humairah Samad Cheung.

A bit later, we will be having 2 concurrent events - Malaysian Congress of Radiology (MCoR) 2015and EUSOBI-Malaysia Breast MRI Training Course 2015. These will be held at The Everly Hotel, Putrajaya, Malaysia from 21 - 23 August 2015. MCoR is led by Dr Amir Fuad Hussain and EUSOBI Breast MRI by Dr Suraiya Ibrahim.

For updated information, kindly log on to our website here.

These 4 major events will keep us busy for the year.

Come 2016, we will be hosting the Special AOSPR – Asian and Oceanic Society for Paediatric Radiology. This will be held from 10 - 12 October 2016 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, Sarawak. The theme is ‘Something for Everyone’

A gentle reminder to all members to keep their subscription current. This will allow you to enjoy registration fees for these events at members’ price.

CME points will soon become a requirement to renew your APC and NSR. Once this is enforced, you will be given a password to log in and key in your CME activities. This is largely a self-regulating system but our evaluator, Dr Muhammad Azrif Ahmad Annuar will audit your entries from time to time.

Over the last 6 months, we have seen a significant surge in the membership of CoR. I believe this is partly due to efforts in disseminating valuable information to members which affects their practice. Our website has been revamped to make it more pleasant and inviting. Thanks largely to Dr Sivakumaran Karupayah and his team. We will still continue to send you SMS blast and email any important announcement or news.

Our memberships now stood at 396 members. This is definitely significant. Building and maintaining team spirit is our priority. If all radiologists were to unite, there are many more things we can do. As technology is advancing, we cannot afford to be sitting in our ‘darkroom’ anymore. We need to come together and work together.

We have 8 Special Interest Group or SIGs in CoR. I would like to see more participation of members in each and every SIG. SIGs are the pillars that will hold CoR high up to be a respected society. One of the major activities this year would be to revise a document on justification of radiological procedures called Guidelines for Clinical Practice in Radiology. This project was first carried out in the year 2000 during the tenure of President Dato Dr Joginder Singh. 15 years later, there is a definite need to review and revise them. I would encourage members through the respective SIGs to participate in this project.

Our relationship with Malaysian Society of Radiographers and Malaysian Association of Medical Physics are at all times high. We will continue to carry out more joint activities for mutual benefits and greater professionalism. This is part of building a team spirit in Radiology. Ultimately, this will make Radiology an important department in the chain of clinical services and something that medical practice cannot do without.
