The Launch of the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2001 by YB Dato’ Chua Jui Meng, Minister of Health, Malaysia followed by the Mini-Exhibition on Breast Cancer
compiled by Dr Evelyn Ho

Early on the morning of D-Day, the 4th October, we had another rehearsal, this time with the overhead LCD projector in place! The launch gambit was tested with the repaired LCD projector and a microphone had to be used for the sound output via mini-compo speakers connected to the College’s notebook.

A last minute change of emcee was necessary as the original person had a cough and cold!

While this was going on, the exhibitors were putting the final touches to their display and guests who had arrived, mingled and chatted. Everyone had a pretty pink ribbon pinned on to denote breast cancer awareness.

YB Dato’ Chua’s arrival was delayed and our guests were very patient indeed. After YB Dato’ Chua’s arrival, the programme proceeded smoothly. YB Dato’ Chua impressed upon the audience the gravity of breast cancer awareness and yet entertained everyone with jokes!

Then came the Launch gambit, followed by the cheque presentation ceremony. The organizers presented YB Dato’ Chua with a momento for gracing the Launch. Finally a group photograph of all the supporters of the campaign with YB Dato’ Chua was taken. Very soon, YB was led to the Mini-exhibition in the foyer.

This was followed by a Press Conference and then, refreshments. We had good media attendance with 28 journalists and TV crew members from the major newspaper publications in Malaysia; RTM, TV3 and NTV7. With the serving of refreshments, the official launch was over. In the meantime, preparations of the Public Forum were already taking place in the Auditorium!
