 Revised 20/08/2003
| SBE Trainers’ Workshop for the AVON Team on 20 July 2002 | |
| Radiology Malaysia webmaster taking participants on a quick tour of the Breast Health Website both as a resource centre for trainers as well as for own knowledge |
This year Avon Cosmetics (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd is doing their part for raising breast cancer awareness. For a start, they are equipping their sales team with skills to perform self breast examination as well as teach SBE as they reach out to others. Their dynamic Corporate Affairs Manager, Ms Megawati Md Rashidi is working with the NCWO Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2002 Coordinator, Mrs June Yeoh.
Dr Evelyn Ho from the College of Radiology, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia conducted the SBE Trainers’ Workshop at the Avon premises on 20 July 2002 to a group of about 17 participants. As in all other workshops, teaching breast models were used to enhance the workshop and allow hands on practical skills to be demonstrated.
In true Malaysian style, a tasty tea was served after the session!
Feedback and evaluation: 67% felt confident of conducting self breast examination workshops or teaching self breast examination. This is good feedback as this workshop was made up of participants without any medical training or medical affiliation. |
|
| Participants are told how to use the Breast Care Recorder | Participants clasping hands beneath their chins, while exerting and attempting to “pull” apart their hands. This helps to make certain changes (if any) in the breasts more prominent. (The LOOK aspect of SBE) |
|
| Dr Evelyn Ho demonstrating on a volunteer, En Asmadi, how to lie down and position the breasts optimally for the “feel” aspect of SBE. The pads and flat of the fingers are used | Participants are going through the motion of leaning forward to experience and observe (in the imaginary mirror in front of them), the way the breasts “hang”, the breast contours and for skin changes |
|
| Easy doest it! Participants cannot wait to get their “hands” on the teaching breast models!!! | Participants are guided by Mrs June Yeoh (NCWO), as they put into practice what they have just been “taught” in the workshop |
|
| Participants helping each other out in ensuring the fingers are parallel to the “skin” of the teaching breast model when palpating for abnormalities, such as lumps in the breasts | Dr Evelyn Ho giving further pointers during the Hands-on session on SBE |
|
| Mrs June Yeoh and Dr Evelyn Ho doing justice to the fried beehoon! | Participants having tea after the long session on SBE | | | |
