Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer 2003 Avon Associates Launch – 23 Sep 2003

The event began with the singing of the Avon song, with everyone clapping their hands and standing up. It was quite a change from the usual events which tend to be more formal and serious. In Avon, the staff of Avon are known as associates.

The President of Avon Malaysia, Mr Gérman Martinez took the lead to join in every activity and gave a moving speech. The Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer programme for 2003 was unveiled after a presentation of the KGBC 2002 activities.

Margaret Gooi, a breast cancer survivor of more than 2 decades shared her experience and how through the Breast Cancer Welfare Association, more has been done to help others with breast cancer survive the journey through diagnosis, treatment and return to normal life.

Dr Evelyn Ho then gave a very lively talk on “Kissing Goodbye to Breast Cancer Begins with You”. The focus was on early detection through self breast examination. With her assistants, Rosa Ho, and Kwan Yau Oi, as well as a volunteer from Avon, Billy Law, demonstrations on how to look at your breasts in the mirror and how to lie down and feel one’s breasts went on smoothly. The audience was of course, asked to participate and go through the “motions” themselves.

Mr Martinez also launched the “Biggest Bse Awareness Campaign” by sending the message of breast health through email.

The President of Avon kicks off the KGBC campaign by being the first donor to the fund.

Mr Gérman Martinez, then became the first one to donate to the KGBC fund 2003. In return he received a Pink Ribbon and a Women of the Earth (WOE) Concentrate. These will be available for purchase through the dealers. For every pink ribbon sold at RM6.90, RM3 would be donated to the fund while for every bottle of WOE concentrate sold, RM1 would be donated to the fund. The target to raise would be RM250,000.

Other activities by the Avon associates includes best decorations for each floor of their office and also the floor and individual challenges.

It was a rather motivating event and it closed with the rendition of Keranamu Wanita.
