NCWO 2003 Breast Cancer Awareness Programme takes off with a cheque from YB Dato’ Seri Shahrizat – 22 Aug 2003

A cheque presentation from the Ministry of Women and Family Development (MWFD) to the National Council of Women’s Organisations (NCWO) took place on 22 August 2003 at Bangunan LPPKN in Kuala Lumpur. Following the successful 2002 NCWO Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, the Ministry of Women and Family Development has confirmed their support to the NCWO’s initiative to educate women and men on the need to be breast aware.

This year, the programme will be extended to the other 8 states in Malaysia from September 2003 to September 2004 and will run parallel to the Nur Sejahtera programme by the Lembaga Penduduk dan Pembangunan Keluarga Negara (LPPKN) – an agency under the MWFD.

In 2002, the NCWO worked with collaborators to widen their reach at the grassroots: Ministry of Women and Family Development, College of Radiology, Breast Cancer Welfare Association, Federation of Family Planning Association and State Family Planning Association, Persatuan Wanita Sabah (PEWASA) and Sabah Nurses’ Union and all the NCWO affiliates in Penang, Pahang, Kelantan, Sabah and Selangor/Kuala Lumpur. More than 8000 women were taught self breast examination 2002 in these states. 

YB Dato’ Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil graced the occasion and gave the stark facts on breast cancer in her speech. There was a video presentation to showcase the activities of the NCWO in their BCAC 2002, followed by the cheque presentation of RM214,892.00. Mrs Ramani Gurusamy, Deputy President of the NCWO received the cheque from YB Dato’ Seri Shahrizat.

YB Dato’ Seri Shahrizat then, toured the LPPKN clinic and viewed the exhibits before adjourning to the Press Conference and tea


 

Breast Health Workshop kicks off BCAC 2004

The first workshop for trainers will be held on 9th Jan 2004, at Corus Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Three other public workshops planned for 2004.
