..::Pink October Walk::..

Professionals jazzes up the warm up for the walk and the crowd really stretched to the music!

The walk was preceded by a few short speeches by the Chair of the programme, Dr Devanand; followed by a short speech by Dato’ Dr Ridzwan Bakar (Chairman of Pantai Holdings Bhd), Mr Andy Toh of Asia Assistance, and Guest of Honour, YB Dato’ Donald Lim, Deputy Minister of Information.

Pantai Medical Centre in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with Asia Assistance organized a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on 2 October 2004. People began assembling by 7am and a Jazzercise was the warm up. The music revved everyone into action – with increasing anticipation for the flag off. The atmosphere was charged with positive enthusiasm and everyone had fun.

The guest of honour was YB Dato’ Donald Lim Siang Chai, Deputy Minister of Information. Everyone was dressed in the uniform pink T shirts (even YB Dato’ Donald Lim) for the 5 km walk down Pantai Hill, along Jalan Bangsar, Jalan Maarof, Jalan Telawi and finally through Lucky Garden and back to Jalan Pantai. Some participants from the Pantai nursing school were carrying placards with messages about breast health. Breast cancer survivors and supporters of breast cancer awareness took part in this walk.

After the walk, participants were treated to a concert, a Look Good, Feel Good session by Estee Lauder & Triump, a food fair, lucky draws and a charity bazaar. Fund raising activities have been going on for the past few weeks – with all funds raised being donated to Hospis Malaysia.

All in all, a worthy way to spend Saturday morning!

For Pink October, the international breast cancer awareness month, free clinical breast examinations and discounts for mammograms have been offered at Pantai Medical Centre, Bangsar.
