Mothers’ Day Gift at Pusat Injil, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur – 7 May 2005

Caring for “mum’s” breasts (focused on how to be breast aware) was one of the activities arranged by the women’s group in Pusat Injil TTDI. After all, the nation would be celebrating Mothers’ Day the next day on the 8 May 2005.

A timely “gift” it was too, for the small group of ladies. Dr Evelyn Ho imparted basic information for understanding the human breast before going into the technique of being self breast aware. Learning what was normal for their breasts would be the first step to take. Subsequently, the ladies were shown how to look and feel their breasts systematically. Teaching silicon breast models were available for hands on palpation. Ms Rosa Ho assisted in the hands on session.

There was quite an active Question and Answer session at the end. The aim of this session was to motivate women to take charge of their breast health and overcome fear in getting to know their breasts. With breast cancer being the most common cancer in women, people should be armed with the tools for early detection and save lives! They also need to learn to perform self breast examination confidently.
