Breast Cancer Charity Hi-Tea, Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur – 14 Sep 2006
By Dr Evelyn Ho

Estee Lauder Companies, together with Malaysian Tattler, Breast Cancer Welfare Association and the Shangri-La Hotel organised a Charity Hi-Tea to raise funds towards breast cancer awareness and the Breast Cancer Welfare Association.

Estee Lauder Companies have been and are continuing in their efforts in supporting research, distributing pink ribbons and spreading the message that early detection saves lives. The Charity Hi-Tea was yet another enjoyable event with a charity designer auction as one of the many highlights.

Six local top designers – Tom Abang Saufi, Carven Ong, Eric Choong, Khoon Hooi, Beatrice Looi and Ridzuan Bohari each designed an exclusive, pink-inspired outfit for auction. This year, there was more! Memorabilia autographed by celebrities including Elizabeth Hurley, Donald Trump and Beyonce Knowles were up for auction as well. Yasmin Yusuf as emcee did a splendid job getting the audience to “part” with their money for a very good cause! There was a special treat when the Guest of Honour, Yang Amat Berbahagia Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, sportingly rendered 3 songs to raise some more funds! Datin Seri Rosmah sang “If Tomorrow Never Comes”, “The Way You Used to Be” and a Mandarin song “Yuè Liang Dài Biao Wo De Xin”.

A cheque presentation was made at the every end of the event – with RM50,000, RM10,000 and RM20,000 pledged to the Breast Cancer Welfare Association, National Cancer Society of Malaysia and College of Radiology Academy of Medicine of Malaysia. Receiving the mock cheques were Ms Ranjit Kaur, President of the Breast Cancer Welfare Association, Dr Saunthari Dharmalingam, Executive Director of National Cancer Society of Malaysia and Dr Evelyn Ho, President, College of Radiology of Malaysia.

At the end of the whole event which lasted from 3.45pm to 7.00pm, the Breast Cancer Welfare Association members dedicated a song (Abba’s Thank You for the Music) to Estee Lauder Companies for their unflinching support of many years.

Each table “cost” RM3,000 by donation and everyone who attended was given an Estee Lauder Fragrance as well as a pack of items to help spread the awareness message for early detection. Lucky draws and entertainment from Harith Iskandar, Deja Moss as well as Estee spiced up the event further. The Managing Director of Estee Lauder Companies, Mr Loo Kai Nan mentioned in his speech, “Knowledge is Power and Power removes Fear” when referring to the need for all to be educated about breast cancer and its early detection methods.

Easily more than RM50,000 was raised in this event – all for a good cause – TO BEAT BREAST CANCER in Malaysia!
