| Amanita Dress with Style & Confidence Fashion Show: For Women with Breast Cancer – 4 Nov 2006 By Dr Evelyn Ho
It was afternoon tea with a difference at the Deccan Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, 4 November 2006. Amanita owner, Dee Sidhu organized a Ladies Only event but not just any lady – it was a fashion show for women with breast cancer!
Congratulations to Dee for ensuring women with breast cancer would be able to dress with style and confidence. This is just the type of programme to assist a woman in her return to “normal” life after being diagnosed and undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
As there is now earlier detection of breast cancer and constant improvement in the management of breast cancer, living “with” breast cancer will become more common as breast cancer becomes a “chronic illness”. Even after being declared free of the disease after treatment, the breast cancer survivor still lives with the higher risk of breast cancer occurring in her.
As women will be women, looking and feeling good both go hand in hand. Fashion tips, door gifts and discount vouchers were part of the attraction for the event. Women were made aware of the various types of garments for those who have had mastectomy – such as post mastectomy bras, mastectomy swimwear, adapted fashion bras and for those undergoing treatment with hair loss - hats, scarves and various other accessories galore were showcased.
When asked what “drives” her, Dee declares a passion for living life to the full and sharing that enthusiasm with others. It is definitely contagious.
Judging from the responses of those at the tea, everyone had a good time. Ms Lee who was at the event was absolutely thrilled that this aspect of breast cancer care was being addressed, “it’s was so hard to go shopping but now I can go with a whole different perspective.”
Margaret commented, “I have always worn baggy tops as I never had the confidence to wear anything else. Amanita has taught me that dressing can be more exciting”
“I was always afraid to go on a beach holiday but I am going out to buy a swimsuit and a swimming prosthesis next week. Dee and her team at Amanita have reminded me that life should be fun and colourful and have restored my confidence” exclaimed Janet. | About Amanita Amanita are retail stores with a social conscience.
