College of Radiology Receives RM 100,000 at the Wear it Pink 2 Charity Gala Dinner, Petaling Jaya – 19 Nov 2006
By Dr Evelyn Ho

There is an increasing incidence of breast cancer each year
Let’s battle this disease and bring hope to all who are dear

Start at home, tell family and friends,
Face life, don’t deny
Feel and touch for change in our breasts,
Know it now, live Life!

Excerpts from the Wear It Pink theme song, The Ribbon of Life

Pantai Medical Centre (PMC), Bangsar culminated their 2006 Wear It Pink 2 Breast Cancer Education and Awareness Campaign in a Charity Gala Dinner at Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel in Selangor on 19 Nov 2006. The excerpts of the theme song above, “The Ribbon of Life” embodies the spirit of their campaign.

At the dinner, everyone had a touch of pink on if you looked hard enough. Be it a pink striped shirt, a tie with pink motifs or even just the pink ribbon on the lapels of the menfolk while women had a more creative time with their interpretations of pink attire.

Yg Amat Berbahagia Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor graced the occasion and was naturally dressed resplendently in pink. The dinner was well attended and guests were treated to a night of varied entertainment!

Messages from Dr Devanand, Chairman of the WIP2 campaign and a speech by Yg Amat Berbahagia Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor were followed by a multimedia presentation and Asian Hospital Management Awards 2006; with tokens of appreciation to caring partners – Tokio Marine & Roche.

The College of Radiology (CoR) Breast Cancer Awareness Programme (BCAC) was boosted by a RM 100,000 donation presented at the dinner. On behalf of all the underprivileged and financially challenged women in Malaysia, the CoR thanks PMC, their caring partners and sponsors for their generous donations. The families and friends around the women and men who will benefit from the CoR Mammogram Programme will also likewise be affected positively. A “little” kindness indeed goes a long way!

Patrick Teoh and Jo Kukathas (a.k.a. Ribena Berry) were the emcees for the night, keeping everyone in a cheery mood despite the underlying serious message of the event. Entertainment were from Dua Space Dance Troupe, Shafinaz, Adibah Noor and Reshmonu as well as Instant Café Theatre. The finale was the performance of The Ribbon Of Life by Adibah Noor and the Organising Committee of WIP2 with the Guest of Honour and caring partners on stage!

Everyone had a good time and just before the finale, there was a raffle draw sponsored by Tokio Marine. Dr Premila won the raffle with the prize of return tickets to Beijing, China.

About the Wear it Pink 2 Campaign 2006
Pantai Medical Centre and Asia Assistance Network (M) Sdn Bhd launched the Wear It Pink 2 (WIP2) Breast Cancer Education & Awareness Campaign at Dewan Pantai, PMC on 8 Aug 2006 and subsequently held a Public Forum on 20 Aug 2006, A Fun Walk on 10 Sep 2006. PMC also provided heavily discounted mammograms for all from 8 Aug to 30 Nov 2006. MixFM community service programme went on air with breast health messages from 18 Sep to 15 Nov 2006.

The 3 goals of the WIP2 are:
  • Encourage more volunteers in all major towns in Malaysia, with the help of their health care providers to hold Pink Ribbon campaigns where they spread the message and encourage women to examine themselves.
  • To have access to high quality mammography screening at ONE year intervals for women after the age of 40 years based on recommended screening guidelines
  • To have access to a specialist breast centre staffed by a multidisciplinary team

Congratulations to Pantai Medical Centre for winning the Marketing, PR and Promotional Projects at the 5th Annual Asian Hospital Management Awards 2006 on 30 Aug 2006, held in Singapore. Their submission for the Wear It Pink Breast Cancer Education and Awareness Campaign 2005 was a clear winner.
