FMM Announces Breast Cancer Awareness Fun & Fund Raising Carnival, Kuala Lumpur – 19 Oct 2010

The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers Women in Business Committee and the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA) are jointly organising a fund raising carnival at Putrajaya Lake Club from 8 am onwards on Sunday, 28 November 2010. Funds raised from the carnival will be channelled to the BCWA Pink Challengers, the dragon boat team formed by breast cancer survivors. YB Dato’ Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development will officiate at the event and deliver a keynote address.

Amongst the activities planned are competition-class dragon boat and Harley Davidson bike rides, cupcake decorating contest, face painting, “jumping castle” and a sumptuous spread of food and beverages. There will also be a breast cancer talk, a sharing session from breast cancer survivors and for the finale, a lucky draw with attractive giveaways. Penny Wong, Chairperson of the FMM Women in Business Committee, said, “We very much welcome the support of members of the public for our fund raising carnival. It will be an ideal opportunity to spend the weekend in an enjoyable and entertaining atmosphere whilst at the same time contribute to a noble cause.”

FMM will have the support of member companies who will sponsor the pyramid tents to market their products and services, place advertisements on the dragon boats and coupons for a fee. To date, companies who have pledged support include Water-Care Industries Sdn Bhd, Perodua Manufacturing Sdn BHd, Airtime Management & Programming Sdn Bhd, Seremban Engineering Bhd, Success Electronics & Transformer Manufacturer Sdn BHd, Accel Graphic System Sdn BHd, Watt Euro-Drive (M) Sdn BHd, Lam Soon Edible Oils Sdn Bhd, Elit Purnama Sdn Bhd, F & N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd, Nestle Products Sdn Bhd, Khind Holdings Bhd and Mega Events Sdn Bhd.

Coupons for the various rides, activities, food & beverages can be purchased in advance by calling the FMM Secretariat at +603 6286 7200 (Ms Leong). Coupons will also be available on the day of the carnival. Penny Wong expects the event to raise more than RM50,000 for the BCWA and appeals to the Malaysian public to support this event on 28 November 2010.

NCR 2003 Report: Breast Cancer is still the top cancer amongst women

Latest statistics from
the National Cancer Registry (NCR) show
that lung cancer is the most common cancer experienced by men in the country, whilst
breast cancer is the top cancer in women. Lung cancer accounts for 13.8 per cent of cancer cases among men. For women, breast cancer accounts
for 31 per cent of cases.
