| Breast Health Awareness at Bandar Puchong Gospel Centre, Puchong, Selangor – 7 Aug 2010 Men, women and children were given an eye opener with respect to breast health at the Bandar Puchong Gospel Centre this afternoon. The approach was positive and more towards motivating the audience to get to know one’s own breasts. The foundation was laid first by the session on “All about the breast and development” before going into “How to do effective self-breast examination”.

| IJM Plantations Berhad Gives Back to Society Making Breast Health Awareness One of Its CSR Initiatives in Sandakan, Sabah – 31 July 2010 IJM Plantations Berhad has been supporting breast health awareness as one of its way of giving back to the community since 2006. IJMP encourages awareness at the grassroots level. The 2010 plan is to work at the secondary school level in the interior of Sabah, reaching out to school girls aged 15-17 years (and their mothers too). Breast health awareness and how to familiarise oneself with one’s own breasts are the objectives.

For the full report, click here | Jamuan Teh Malaysia – 3-8 Aug 2010 The Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA) and the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) worked together for their annual fundraising event “Jamuan Teh Malaysia” which was held from 3-8 August 2010. All who supported this event for breast cancer awareness hosted a tea party in their home, workplace or community centres to make/collect donations. Each host who registered was given a Host Kit, consisting of Sabah Tea teabags / balloons / posters / stickers, donation boxes, details of where to send donations; and promotional material from BCWA and NCSM. The host promoted the event and invited their guests encouraging them to make a donation. Jamuan Teh Malaysia keepsake items was also on sale to the host and their guests.
| Reach To Recovery Training 2010, Petaling Jaya – 25-27 June 2010 Reach to Recovery Training is a training workshop for volunteer breast cancer survivors in Malaysia. This workshop was organised by the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA) from the 25-27 June 2010. It was held at the office of the BCWA in Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan. Participants were very enthusiastic and gained much from the training workshop.

| Kinabalu Pink Ribbon Debuts at the Sabah Dragon Boat Race, Kota Kinabalu – 19-20 June 2010 “We did extremely well for a first timer!!” exclaimed Lucilla Pang, President of the Kinabalu Pink Ribbon, a newly formalised breast cancer support group in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Lucilla was elated as their team completed the 800m race, although the members of the team joked about rowing to the side halfway if they ran out of steam. As icing on the cake, they were thrilled to be placed 14th out of 18 teams for the charity races.

| Hwa Tai’s Evolution Night, Kuala Lumpur – 18 June 2010 “Contribute to Breast Cancer Awareness Programmes by Purchase of Hwa Tai’s Luxury Brand of Biscuits” – 18 June 2010 to 30 Sep 2011 Malaysian biscuit manufacturer, Hwa Tai Industries Bhd donated RM100,000 to Estee lauder’s breast cancer awareness campaign towards the Landmarks Illumination Initiative in October this year. During the dinner held at Shangri La Hotel, Hwa Tai also announced its partnership with Estee Lauder Companies Malaysia (ELC) in raising funds through the sale of Luxury range of biscuits with the ELC breast cancer awareness campaign logo on the pack. The special packs of luxury biscuits would be on sale from 18 June 2010 and tentatively to 30 Sep 2011.

| Health Camp at Voules Estate, Tenang, Johor – 12 June 2010 Five volunteers and 5 breast cancer survivors started out from Segamat at 8.30am to Voules Estate Tenang to take part in "Kempen Kesihatan Kawasan Parlimen Labis" on Saturday, the 12 June 2010. The 4-hour event was specially organised for all the estate workers and their families and it drew a crowd of 358 people. It was a very informative eye-opener for the 133 ladies who came to the Breast Cancer Support Society Segamat (BCSS) booth during the health camp.

| Bonding and Learning at the Mom-Daughter Breast Health Workshop, Petaling Jaya – 22 May 2010 Eight mother-daughter pairs participated in the breast health workshop organised by the Breast Cancer Welfare Association. The 2-hour workshop focussed on empowering women with knowledge about the breast. The next step was how to familiarise oneself with one’s breasts through effective self-examination. The workshop was interactive in nature and closed with a Q & A session.

| BCSG, JB Breast Cancer Awareness & Healthy Lifestyle Campaign on Mother’s Day, Johor Bahru – 8 May 2010 In conjunction with Mother’s Day, The Breast Cancer Support Group Johor Bahru (JB) organised a “Program Gaya Hidup Sihat Bersama Pemimpin” on 8 May 2010. The event was officiated by YB Dato’ Shahrir Abdul Samad, Johor Bahru Member of Parliament and sponsored by CIMB Foundation. The variety of activities included self breast examination, cooking demonstration and health talks. The College of Radiology Value Added Mammogram Programme was also launched at this event.

| The Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia AGM, Petaling Jaya – 27 Mar 2010 Ranjit Kaur returns unopposed in the recent Annual General Meeting of the Breast Cancer Welfare Association, Malaysia. The AGM proceedings went very smoothly with election of office bearers conducted by Prof Dr Yip Cheng Har. The BCWA has increased its activities markedly since they have taken on full time paid staff. The Executive Director of 1 year is Jothy Govindan. As usual, it was a time of fellowship after the AGM with tea and also announcements of upcoming activities such as Cane Exercise and Etiquette Workshops. There was also a call for volunteers to form a bowling team where they would be exposed to proper training.
| AMAZING!! The OutRageously PiNk Nite, Bangsar Village II, Opinion Poll Report, Kuala Lumpur – Feb 2010 An opinion poll was carried out on OutRageously PiNk Nite, 7 Nov 2009. Out of the 915 survey forms that were returned, 801 were analysed. 96.9% of the people in and around Bangsar Village II in Bangsar Baru, Kuala Lumpur felt this was a good method to promote breast health awareness. 88.3% said it stimulated their curiosity about breast health and about 84.9% felt this kind of event could attract the male population to take an interest in breast health issues. Whatever the feedback, the OPN would have achieved its ultimate objective of making people sit up and ask, “what’s going on?”
