Breast Cancer Awareness at Montfort Girls Youth Camp, Penampang, Sabah – 5 Mar 2011

A breast cancer awareness talk and self-breast examination demonstration was held on 5th Mar 2011, Saturday from 9.30am to 12 noon at Montfort Girls Youth Camp in Penampang. The Kinabalu Pink Ribbon (KPR) Committee, volunteers and a nursing lecturer were present to conduct the workshop. Thirty girls from 18 to 23 years of age attended the workshop. Breast cancer survivors Wong Yun Kim and Lucilla Pang shared their experience living through breast cancer.

The Montfort Youth Training Centre (MYTC) reaches out to young rural girls including school dropouts to give them a better chance in life. The non-profit technical training institute in Penampang is an extension of the Montfort Boys Town (MBT) in Shah Alam, Selangor. MBT was established 44 years ago.

 
 

NCR 2003 Report: Breast Cancer is still the top cancer amongst women

Latest statistics from
the National Cancer Registry (NCR) show
that lung cancer is the most common cancer experienced by men in the country, whilst
breast cancer is the top cancer in women. Lung cancer accounts for 13.8 per cent of cancer cases among men. For women, breast cancer accounts
for 31 per cent of cases.
