The Estee Lauder Companies culminated its yearly breast cancer awareness campaign exercise which ran for the whole of October 2011 with a cheque presentation luncheon at its head office today at Centre Point South, The Boulevard, Mid Valley City, Kuala Lumpur.
The brainchild of the late Mrs Evelyn Lauder, Estee Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Awareness campaign incepted in 1992, has been at the forefront of breast cancer awareness throughout the world. In Malaysia, 2011 marks The Estee Lauder Companies Malaysia’s 15th year championing the cause. Beyond raising awareness through educational roadshows, the company rallies fund-raisers for local non-government and non-profit organisations that each contribute towards fighting breast cancer in their respective areas of Research, Education, Treatment, After-treatment Care and Support for patients, survivors and their families.
This year’s 2011 campaign theme Together. Connect. Communicate. Conquer. For A Future Free of Breast Cancer is a compelling call-to-action that emphasises the power of millions joining together, with one voice, to communicate the life-saving message about the importance of breast health and early detection.
In its first initiative combining retail and fashion, The Estee Lauder Companies Malaysia launched a shopping and retail-tainment extravaganza - The Pink Fashion Night Out was conceptualised to raise funds via the sale of the Pink Passport, the gateway to more than 200 retailers in Pavilion KL and Fahrenheit 88. Comprising fashion, gifts, art and F&B brands within Pavilion K.L., promotions are valued at more than RM 300,000 and raffles valued at more than RM 15,000. The shopping passport comes with a limited edition Pink Shopping tote designed by One Academy student Lee Jia Chang.
In addition to that, funds were also raised from the Estee Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Campaign Golf Charity and the sale of limited edition pink ribbon merchandise from brands within its umbrella such as Estee Lauder and Origins.
During the luncheon, the Estee Lauder Companies presented RM 550,000.00 to the non-profit non government organisations comprising Breast Cancer Welfare Association, Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation CARIF, College of Radiology, National Cancer Society Malaysia, NCSM, Kinabalu Breast Cancer Support Association and Breast Cancer Support Group Johor Bahru.

Joyce states, “The Committee’s objective this year was to reach out to three times the number of people we have ever touched, with the intention that each and every one of them will be made more aware of breast cancer and that early detection saves life. We hope that they will perform regular self checks, go for clinical checks, and reach out to their own social networks. In line with our corporate values of Bringing The Best To Everyone We Touch, we hope to reduce the average number of breast cancer incidences in Malaysia.”
The luncheon also included the Senior Management of the Estee Lauder Companies. Amongst those representing the non-profit organizations in receiving the donations were Puan Sri Datin Seri Dato’ Akmal Abdul Salam, Patron of the Breast Cancer Welfare Association, Dr Teo Soo Hwang of CARIF, Dato’ Dr Humairah Samad Cheung of College of Radiology and Dr Saunthari Dharmalingam of NCSM.
