This year, the AGM of the BCWA was held in Dewan Teong Kim Chai of the Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, Petaling Jaya. The meeting began with Ranjit Kaur delivering her President’s Report of Events & Speech followed by the confirmation of the minutes of the 18th AGM held in 2005. There was a very big turn out for the AGM, a very encouraging sign and members of varying “ages” as survivors!
Events for Pink October was outlined and members encouraged to join the various activities, participate or tell others about the various products that could help to generate donations for BCWA. These included the sale of Pink Parker Pens, Royal Selangor Jelly Moulds and Selangor Turf Show tickets. There were also sales of pink ribbon earrings, handphone chain, brooch and pendants.
Siew Mei Quin presented the financial report for year ending 30th June 2006. The revision of the constitution was approved by the floor.
Ranjit informed the members that the existing patron, Yang Mulia Raja Toh Puan Teh Zaitun binti Raja Kamarulzaman had for health reasons advised the BCWA to appoint another patron. Toh Puan was a special friend, mentor and a pillar of support to the BCWA and its members. The Association extends its appreciation to Toh Puan, at the same time requesting that she continues to remain patron of the Association. Since the BCWA constitution allows the appointment of more than one patron, and in line with Toh Puan’s advice it was suggested that the Association appoint another patron.
Puan Sri Datin Seri Akmal Abdul Salam was unanimously appointed as the new patron of the BCWA. Ranjit also explained Puan Sri Akmal would be speaking on behalf of the BCWA in various functions and will be actively involved in various capacities. Ranjit expressed her confidence that Puan Sri Akmal would indeed be a great asset to BCWA.
The existing executive committee resigned and elections for the new executive committee 2006/2008 were carried out. The elections for the new committee went very smoothly. There were 6 names nominated for the posts of committee members and the 3 with the highest number of votes were elected. Another 3 committee members were appointed after the AGM was over when a short “new” committee meeting was held. It was good to see new faces in the committee and the fact that many names were put up for election of the committee.
By 1 pm, everyone adjourned to lunch.
