Entertaining at home made easy – 23 Aug 2003 Report By Jennifer Loh – Social Subcomittee, BCWA
BCWA held a social event for the month of August to provide members with some tips on how to entertain at home. The event was aimed at helping members get back into the mainstream of life after going through a difficult time, and to rejoice in living again. What better way than to invite good friends over for an enjoyable evening at home. Our host for the event, Lim Ching Wei, who has a special talent in tossing together a few ingredients and turning it into gourmet food, showed the group the art of entertaining at home. It was not just about good food but also creating the right ambience to help set the mood for a relaxing evening. Forget about slaving over a hot stove for hours! Ching Wei showed the members how easy it was to prepare a 3-course meal without having to spend hours in the kitchen. Members had a chance to learn how to prepare a starter (Mango Salad), a main course (Baked Salmon with potatoes, carrot & asparagus) … and Baked Fruits with vanilla glazing. Not only was the food simple to prepare but also it turned out like gourmet food and tasted heavenly! Next, members had a first hand look at creating a beautifully set table from scratch. Using an old formica top round table, Ching Wei transformed it into an elegant table with interesting décor. Everyone was impressed at the transformation. It was wonderful to see BCWA members having a good time. The afternoon was filled with laughter, questions, wide-eyed wonder … all amidst the appetising aroma wafting through from the oven! No one noticed the time. When it was time to leave, many were eager to try out the recipes. BCWA extends its heartfelt thanks to Ching Wei who has selflessly shared his time and talents with its members. The Conference room table converted into kitchen worktop. The Chef hard at work! |
