BCWA’s New Premises - 2006
By Dr Evelyn Ho The BCWA moved into bigger premises in 2006 and not a moment too soon as their activities had outgrown their previously rented space on the 2nd floor of Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, 16 Jalan Utara in Petaling Jaya for some years already.
The move to the 5th floor has reduced the acute need to look for their own building or larger premises to house their expanding activities and membership.
As I walked towards the entrance to the office, I noted footwear of all shapes, colours and sizes outside the main door! No doubt, this would assist in the maintenance of the flooring! Some members were at the front desk, normally occupied by Marion Khor, the Administrative Executive.
The decor had a very feminine feel to it, and naturally pink was the theme. I was told Yang Berbahagia Puan Sri Datin Seri Dato’ Akmal Abdul Salam, the second patron to the BCWA had been integral to the new look as well as a donor to many of the new fittings, fixtures and amenities within the multi-roomed office.
There various areas included “conference” hall, meeting room, offices, pantry, storeroom and of course, the conveniences aka toilets! There were proper areas for the Thimble Thumb team as well as for storage of the wigs for loan.
Naturally on the day I visited, we had a meeting for the Scientific/Organising Committee for the International Conference on Survivorship and Supportive Care in Cancer to be held on 10-12 August 2007. There was also another concurrent meeting amongst the Pink Challengers Dragon Boat team.
