Activities | | 2008 | | | Bums on Bikes for Breast Cancer- a Runaway Success – 30 Nov 2008 Led by Harley Owners Group Malaysia Chapter and Hurricane Max with his group of superbikers, 20 breast cancer survivors rode pillion on Harley Davidsons and superbikes on ‘Bums on Bikes’ Motorbike Run from Kuala Lumpur to the UNESCO Heritage city of Melaka on the sunny morning of November 30, 2008.
Full report here | Saving Lives Through Early Detection: Breast Health and Self Examination Workshops at grassroots level – update June 2008 The BCWA has been conducting workshops to teach breast health and how to perform self breast examination in a programme that is supported by Avon.
The BCWA and Avon Malaysia forged this partnership to raise funds to conduct hands-on training workshops for women in local communities. A charity high tea was held on 28 June 2007 last year.
Since then, they have trained 307 women. The areas or groups BCWA has reached include Kg Kenanga and surrounding villages; Persatuan Perkumpulan Perempuan Jeram, Residents of SOPHEA, Nursing students of University College Sedaya International, Bagan Hylam in Port Klang, Chinese residents in Raub, Gurdwara Sahib Petaling Jaya, Kampar as well as residents of PPR Taman Wahyu. | BCWA celebrates with those reaching 5-year and 10-year survivorship, Petaling Jaya – 17 May 2008 During the sharing session every 3rd Saturday of the month, BCWA celebrated with those who had survived 5 years and 10 years since they were diagnosed and treated for breast cancer. | Maggi Masak-Masak Studio – 14 May 2008 BCWA members learn how to prepare quick, easy and delicious meals by Chef Abdul Muluk Rambi at the Maggi Masak-Masak Studio.
| BCWA take time out at the National Stud Farm, Perak – 9 May 2008 15 BCWA members spent half a day at the National Stud Farm learning all about looking after race horses! That was taking time out to rejuvenate themselves for the volunteer work that BCWA does.
The last time the BCWA had an excursion to the stud farm was in 2003.
Read about it here | Reach to Recovery Intermediate Level Workshop – 5-6 April 2008 Ranjit Kaur, President of the BCWA, conducted a two day Reach to Recovery Intermediate level workshop on providing psycho-social support for women with breast cancer. Fifteen volunteers from the Patient Support Team, Pink Challengers Dragon Boat Team and Thimble Thumb Team attended the workshop. Anne from Ipoh Pink Champion and Siew Mam from Malacca Breast Cancer Support group also attended the training. | Cooking with Ching Wei at the BCWA – 5 April 2008 BCWA's legal advisor, Lim Ching Wei, turned chef and showed the ladies how to prepare a 5 course dinner of French Onion Soup, East meets West Salad, Roast Chicken with Stuffing, Bread and Butter Pudding and Pineapple Fizz. The ladies, needless to say had a fantabu-licious time! | Regional Islamic Da’awah Council of South East Asia and the Pacific visits BCWA office – 12 Mar 2008 Twenty Muslim visitors from Regional Islamic Da'awah Council of South East Asia and the Pacific visited the BCWA office. The women were from Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Korea, Fiji, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, Papua New Guinea and Hong Kong. They were briefed on the activities of BCWA and had a practical session on breast self examination. | BCWA Handicraft Sessions – 2008 The members meet every second Saturday of the month for handicraft sessions. | BCWA First Breast Prostheses Sewing Workshop, Petaling Jaya – 8 Jan 2008 On the 08 January, BCWA’s Thimble Thumb Team conducted a sewing of prostheses workshop. Seven participants from Segamat Breast Cancer Support Society, 7 from Ipoh Pink Champions and one from Kluang Breast Cancer Support Society attended. The BCWA donated a portable sewing machine to Judy from Kluang BCSS. | | 2007 | BCWA Successfully Organises Yet Another Conference! The International Conference on Survivorship and Supportive Care in Cancer, Kuala Lumpur – 10-12 Aug 2007 The BCWA adds another feather to its cap as it successfully organises the above conference supported by its caring partners. The theme of the conference was Enabling Survival: Promoting Early Intervention and Care.
Read more here! | BCWA & Avon’s Saving Lives Through Early Detection Charity Hi-Tea, Kuala Lumpur – 28 June 2007 The BCWA and Avon Malaysia has forged a partnership to raise funds to conduct hands-on training workshops for women in local communities in Malaysia to enable them to practise early detection of breast cancer. RM 127,212.25 were raised during the Charity Hi Tea on 28 June 2007.
Read more here! | BCWA ‘s New Premises – 2006 The BCWA moved into bigger premises in 2006 and not a moment too soon as their activities had outgrown their previously rented space on the 2nd floor of Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, 16 Jalan Utara in Petaling Jaya for some years already.
