PERAK PALLIATIVE CARE SOCIETY

The Perak Palliative Care Society (PPCS) was formed in 1995.  We only provide home care services because of lack of manpower & we need more nurses (retired) to come forward to help as the cases for cancer patients in Perak are on the rise.

The term "palliative" means when all forms of cure or treatment fails.  This stage usually refers to the critical or final stage of cancer. Our nurses will visit the patients, clean & dress their wounds, give injections or medications.  Our services are free but the patients need to pay for the medication.

For volunteers like us, we are there to provide comfort, respite care, a shoulder to cry on & a ear to listen to their problems, if any.  It's surprising, though, how much we learn from them.  I find that each time I visit a patient, they have so much to teach me.

The main criteria for admission to our home care service is that :
1)  the patient must have a diagnosis of cancer.
2)  the patient must have given his/her consent to the referral being made.
3)  the patient must have a caregiver at home.

This is a contribution from Radiology Malaysia reader, CYC

Make the final days of your loved ones meaningful

Terminal cancer patients can still enjoy a reasonably normal life if given palliative care and the love of their family!
