Breast Reconstruction worked for me... This is a special message from Sabrina (not her real name), a breast cancer survivor who underwent immediate reconstruction of the breast after mastectomy for left breast cancer in 1998. Sabrina writes: "I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Dec 1998 at age 28 and was faced with the traumatic decision of having a lumpectomy or mastectomy. My doctor provided the option to have reconstructive surgery if I decided to have a mastectomy. I did some research and consulted a few medical opinions and opted for the reconstructive surgery. It was the best decision I made. My physical recovery and especially my mental state of well-being was very positive and I was almost active again after one month. It helped me tremendously, that in this distressing period of my life, I need not have the added trauma of seeing my naked body that is "incomplete". Instead my chest looked extremely "natural" at a glance. Today, I still enjoy the many activities that I used to enjoy before my surgery: The silicon implant and surgery in no way impeded my daily life and many outdoor activities like swimming and trekking." |
