The contest started earlier with recruitment of contestants in the run up to OPN. At 10.45pm on OPN, 6 brave contestants were presented on the “stage” of Bar Flam. Angie Ng, former radio personality was the emcee for the event in a cool outfit that supported the PiNk Nite. Angie arrived at 8.30 pm to support the launch of OPN and did an excellent job preparing, briefing and getting to know more about the contestants and judges before the contest started. The judges for the contest were Ms Ranjit Kaur, President of Reach To Recovery International Breast Cancer Support Network and also President of the Malaysian Breast Cancer Council; Dr Gurcharan Singh, President of the Malaysian Oncological Society and John Edward, the Singapore Dragon Boat Team Coach for Breast Cancer Survivors.

The contest started with the “cat walk” whilst Angie introduced them and said a few words about each one. The contestants were very sporting. They danced around and performed a few interesting “moves” before removing their tops one by one. By this time, Bar Flam was getting very crowded with lots of ladies screaming while the contestants were “topless” and strutting their stuff. Angie announced a short break after all contestants had showed off their pectorals. She then introduced Juwita Suwito who was launching her debut CD “Brand New World” on the 18th June 2004. A special preview of the album with a track from Juwita’s CD was played. During the intermission, the judges’ scores were tallied for the final round of the contest. Angie announced the 3 finalists and the second ‘round’ commenced with a single question which the contestants had to tackle. The question chosen was “What would you do if your partner was diagnosed with breast cancer?” Scores were given for the answers and there were some hilarious answers. Contestant No 1 said: “I will donate my breast to her.” Subsequently he impressed the judges with “I will get in touch with the MBCC (Malaysian Breast Cancer Council) for more information”. This was then followed by the final tallying of scores during which Angie conducted a fun session with the audience. Questions relating to breast cancer and the OPN were asked and instant prizes of Unilever products and CinemaOnline subscriptions were given out. | The winners for Mr Muscles contest pose with Ms Ranjit Kaur, President of Reach to Recovery International |
The winners were then announced and the prizes were presented by Ms Ranjit Kaur. Mr. Robert Khoo was the first prize winner and he was adorned with a PINK sash and crowned “Mr. Muscles”. The second prize went to Alfrie and the third prize to Arumugam. John, a Dutchman from Sydney was the most popular contestant. John was on holiday and was on transit to Penang as a supporter for the Adelaide dragon boat team participating in the Dragon Boat Race in Penang on the 19th June 2004. Sponsors for the prizes included Watatime with watches worth RM800; Lunch Vouchers from Acegate Sdn Bhd (Izumi Japanese Restaurant) and free CinemaOnLine magazine subscriptions. John won Unilever products as well as Lunch Vouchers at Izumi Japanese Restaurant. There were no losers as everyone went home with CinemaOnline Magazine subscriptions as well as Unilever products. Mr Muscles event would not have been possible with Bar Flam as host venue. Make up was possible courtesy of Estee Lauder. Estee Lauder sponsored the token of appreciation for Angie Ng as well. |
