Hwa Tai’s Evolution Night, Kuala Lumpur – 18 June 2010
“Contribute to Breast Cancer Awareness Programmes by Purchase of Hwa Tai’s Luxury Brand of Biscuits” – 18 June 2010 to 30 Sep 2011


Malaysian biscuit manufacturer, Hwa Tai Industries Bhd donated RM100,000 to Estee lauder’s breast cancer awareness campaign towards the Landmarks Illumination Initiative in October this year. RM25,000 was donated to Lion Parkson Foundation for students pursuing tertiary studies in local universities. The donations were part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, and were aimed at contributing back to society for the support it received from the people.

Group Chief Executive Officer, Airique Soo Chung Yee, said during Hwa Tai’s Evolution Night 2010 and CSR Initiatives dinner at Shangri-La Hotel, “The campaign is an ideal way for Hwa Tai to achieve its social mission”.

During the dinner, Hwa Tai also announced its partnership with Estee Lauder Companies Malaysia (ELC) in raising funds through the sale of Luxury range of biscuits with the ELC breast cancer awareness campaign logo on the pack. Ten (10) sen from every pack of Luxury Biscuits would go to the ELC BCAC with four beneficiaries, the National Cancer Society of Malaysia, Breast Cancer Welfare Association, Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation and the College of Radiology Academy of Medicine of Malaysia. The special packs of luxury biscuits would be on sale from 18 June 2010 and tentatively to 30 Sep 2011. The amount that would be collected was estimated to be at least RM250,000.

Mr Loo Kai Nan, Managing Director of ELC Malaysia with Airique Soo, Group CEO of Hwa Tai industries Bhd formalised this partnership at a signing ceremony.

Hwa Tai now offers products that are free of cholesterol and trans fat, symbolised by the red heart icon to appear on its products new packaging. The company also unveiled new packaging for its biscuit products, including those under its popular Luxury brand, to emphasise Hwa Tai's reputation as a quality halal biscuit manufacturer. There would be an SMS contest for 3 months to encourage public participation and to know its products better during this re-launching exercise. Questions on Hwa Tai’s products as well as educational questions would be posed during this SMS contest. This contest would incorporate the scholarship fund awards.

NCR 2003 Report: Breast Cancer is still the top cancer amongst women

Latest statistics from
the National Cancer Registry (NCR) show
that lung cancer is the most common cancer experienced by men in the country, whilst
breast cancer is the top cancer in women. Lung cancer accounts for 13.8 per cent of cancer cases among men. For women, breast cancer accounts
for 31 per cent of cases.
