Kinabalu Pink Ribbon Debuts are the Sabah Dragon Boat Race, Kota Kinabalu – 19-20 June 2010
By Lucilla Pang & Dr Evelyn Ho

“We did extremely well for a first timer!!” exclaimed Lucilla Pang, President of the Kinabalu Pink Ribbon, a newly formalised breast cancer support group in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Lucilla was elated as their team completed the 800m race, although the members of the team joked about rowing to the side halfway if they ran out of steam. As icing on the cake, they were thrilled to be placed 14th out of 18 teams for the charity races, especially when some of the teams were made up of men only. This was their inaugural participation in the Sabah Dragon Boat Race at Teluk Likas. The Kinabalu Pink Ribbon team comprised 8 survivors and 12 family members and supporters, and participated in the mixed charity 800m category.

The team trained intensively every weekend for 6 weeks under the watchful eye of an experienced coach at the Marina Club, Sutera Harbour. For the participants, they were holding a paddle as well as sitting in a dragon boat for the first time.

May the Kinabalu Pink Ribbon team continue to be encouraged in their quest to make a difference for breast cancer awareness and support those diagnosed with breast cancer.

Congratulations Kinabalu Pink Ribbon! Well done!!!
