The Kinabalu Breast Cancer Support Association (Kinabalu Pink Ribbon - KPR) was officially launched by the Honourable Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs for Sabah, Y.B. Datuk Hjh. Azizah Bt. Mohd Dun. This very historic moment was held in Le Meridien Hotel in Kota Kinabalu in the presence of supporters, breast cancer survivors, friends and special guests. The ballroom was packed and it was a very emotional event for the breast cancer survivors of the KPR who had toiled to ensure a successful launch to a much needed mission. A public awareness forum was also held on the same day of the launch at Wisma Wanita. This attracted more than 300 participants.

Lucilla Pang, the President of the KPR exclaimed with delight and relief that the launch event had been very smooth and the occasion will go down in history. “What a memorable night it was!!”, Lucilla said. The ballroom was decked in pink and there were plenty of balloons everywhere. The launch was the culmination of months of preparation in the realisation of their dream of having a local breast cancer support group. Lucilla was beaming when she said, “I am so proud and excited about this new chapter in my life and mission to bring KPR to greater heights. All the congratulatory messages were overwhelming and what touches KPR most was the generosity of many who came forward and offered monetary assistance and donations in kind”.

Lucilla was effusive in expressions of gratitude to various bodies, including the College of Radiology for sponsoring teaching breast models and posters which were vital in their carrying out their breast self-examination and awareness talks. Through Dr Evelyn Ho, Lucilla made contact with Suria Meriang (Estee Lauder Group of Companies) and Mary Mansiw of Sandakan. Mary was integral in connecting KPR with IJM Plantations Bhd as that led to the fully sponsored first Public Awareness Talk on Breast Health in Kota Kinabalu. IJM also sponsored teaching breast models to KPR, adding further boost to the KPR support group.

Indeed, KPR is grateful for the encouragement and support from so many parties. They are spurred on in their mission to elevate the level of breast health awareness and support to those with breast cancer.
The College of Radiology wishes KPR all the very best. Keep up the good work - KPR has indeed started with a bang!
